Meters to Feet Converter

Meters to Feet Converter translates metric lengths to imperial and vice versa, with optional split inputs for meters+centimeters and feet+inches.

About meters. A meter (m) is the SI unit of length used globally in construction and engineering. For greater precision, the converter also supports meters + centimeters and automatically normalizes values ≥ 100 cm into meters + remainder.

About feet. A foot (ft) is an imperial/US customary unit often found in legacy drawings, surveying data, and international specifications. One foot equals 12 inches. Decimal feet are standard in surveying, while architectural layouts frequently use a combination of feet and inches.

About inches. An inch (in) equals 1⁄12 of a foot. The converter accepts any inch input and automatically normalizes values ≥ 12 in into feet + remaining inches (e.g., 2 m + 120 cm → 3 m 20 cm ≈ 10 ft 6 in).

Calculation. The relationship between metric and imperial lengths is fixed by definition: one meter equals 3.280839895 feet. The converter first composes a total length on one side (m+cm or ft+in) and then multiplies or divides by the constant to return the corresponding value on the other side.

Formulas

  • ft = m × 3.280839895 (meters → feet)
  • m = ft × 0.3048 (feet → meters)
  • m_total = m + (cm ÷ 100) (compose detailed metric)
  • ft_total = ft + (in ÷ 12) (compose detailed imperial)
  • cm = (m_total − ⌊m_total⌋) × 100 (decompose to meters + centimeters)
  • in = (ft_total − ⌊ft_total⌋) × 12 (decompose to feet + inches)

Examples

  1. 3 m → ft: 3 × 3.280839895 = 9.8425 ft (≈ 9 ft 10.11 in)
  2. 1.75 m → ft: 1.75 × 3.280839895 = 5.7415 ft (≈ 5 ft 8.9 in)
  3. 10 ft → m: 10 × 0.3048 = 3.048 m
