Concrete Volume Calculator

Concrete Volume Calculator estimates the concrete volume for slabs, footings, beams, and columns with unit toggling (metric/imperial), and a waste allowance.

About units. Lengths are entered in meters or feet, and volumes are computed in cubic meters with equivalent cubic feet (and optionally cubic yards) for context.

About element types. The calculator supports two rectangular-prism workflows: (1) plan-based elements (slabs and strip/isolated footings) using length × width × thickness, and (2) prismatic members (beams and columns) using section b × h × length. Switching element type disables irrelevant fields without clearing their values.

About waste allowance. A percentage can be added to cover over-excavation, formwork gaps, spillage, pump line residue, and site variability. Typical ranges are 3–10% depending on element complexity and site practices.

About precision. Enter realistic on-site dimensions (e.g., slab thickness to the nearest 5–10 mm or 1/4 in). Rounding of results should align with batch sizes and truck capacities used by your supplier.

Conversion / Calculation. Rectangular elements are modeled as right prisms. Volumetric results are derived directly from geometric products of the relevant dimensions, then adjusted by the specified waste percentage. All intermediate computations are done consistently to avoid drift when switching workflows or unit systems.

Formulas:

  • V_element = L × W × T (plan-based elements: slab or footing)
  • V_member = b × h × L (beams and columns with rectangular section)
  • V_net = V_element or V_member (base geometric volume)
  • V_total = V_net × (1 + Waste%/100) (apply waste allowance)
  • V_ft³ = V_total × 35.3146667 (equivalent in cubic feet)
  • V_yd³ = V_total × 1.30795062 (optional equivalent in cubic yards)

Examples:

  1. Slab on grade. L = 8.0 m, W = 6.0 m, T = 0.15 m, Waste = 5%
    V_net = 8.0 × 6.0 × 0.15 = 7.20 m³
    V_total = 7.20 × 1.05 = 7.56 m³ ≈ 267.0 ft³
  2. Isolated footing. L = 2.0 m, W = 2.0 m, T = 0.60 m, Waste = 7%
    V_net = 2.0 × 2.0 × 0.60 = 2.40 m³
    V_total = 2.40 × 1.07 = 2.568 m³ ≈ 90.7 ft³
  3. Rectangular column. b = 0.30 m, h = 0.50 m, L = 3.20 m, Waste = 5%
    V_net = 0.30 × 0.50 × 3.20 = 0.48 m³
    V_total = 0.48 × 1.05 = 0.504 m³ ≈ 17.8 ft³
