Square Meters to Square Feet Converter converts areas between m² and ft², and also computes area from length × width using metric (m+cm) or imperial (ft+in) inputs.
About units. This tool supports both SI and imperial systems. Areas are shown in square meters (m²) and square feet (ft²), while dimensions can be entered as meters/centimeters or feet/inches depending on the chosen workflow.
About square meters. A square meter (m²) is the SI unit for area, standard across most international projects and technical specifications. One m² is the area of a 1 m by 1 m square.
About square feet. A square foot (ft²) is an imperial unit prevalent in US real estate, construction documents, and FF&E schedules. One ft² is the area of a 1 ft by 1 ft square.
About workflows. Use Simple when you already have an area to convert between m² and ft². Use Dimensions to enter length and width (m+cm or ft+in) and get the area live in both unit systems. Switching unit inputs preserves your values and updates the results immediately.
Conversion. The unit relationship is fixed: 1 ft = 0.3048 m, therefore 1 m² = 10.763910416 ft² and 1 ft² = 0.09290304 m². In the dimensions workflow, lengths are first normalized (m + cm/100 or ft + in/12), multiplied to obtain area, and then expressed in the other unit via these constants.
Formulas.
- Direct area (m² → ft²): ft² = m² × 10.763910416 (convert given area in m² to ft²)
- Direct area (ft² → m²): m² = ft² × 0.09290304 (convert given area in ft² to m²)
- Dimensions (metric entry):
Lm = m + cm/100, Wm = m + cm/100
Am² = Lm × Wm, Aft² = Am² × 10.763910416
(compute area from m+cm) - Dimensions (imperial entry):
Lft = ft + in/12, Wft = ft + in/12
Aft² = Lft × Wft, Am² = Aft² × 0.09290304
(compute area from ft+in)
Examples.
- Direct area: 30.0 m² → 30.0 × 10.763910416 = 322.92 ft² (approx.)
- Dimensions (metric): 6 m 00 cm × 4 m 50 cm → L = 6.00 m, W = 4.50 m → A = 27.00 m² → 290.63 ft² (approx.)
- Dimensions (imperial): 18 ft 0 in × 12 ft 6 in → L = 18.00 ft, W = 12.50 ft → A = 225.00 ft² → 20.903 m² (approx.)
